It Is What It Takes

My personal note.

Just this morning, a friend of mine asked me to participate for this event, Kartini Digital, celebrating women's emancipation which was inspired by R.A. Kartini and well-known as Kartini's Day. Not sure what to come up with but here it goes.

When we were young, people were so curious on getting our answers over this one famous question "What do you wanna be when you grow up?"—I wonder why sometimes—and we often came up with our silly but yet inspiring answers. Me, for example, the answer was astronaut hehe. I was seven year-old back then. Of course, my interest had gone wild afterward. I thought about building skyscrapers instead and a bit carried away with artistry although the talent was far from good lol. Then again, those were when I was young! I had absolutely no idea what it takes to "really" get there.

I've grown up and much older now, and I'm a woman who works in information technology and telecommunication fields. To be honest, I got there against my will at the beginning. I had my doubt at first and somehow I had to struggle with my boundaries. Well, as we prolly know, some people often generalize the subject as part of men’s world where women cannot be as good as men in those areas. I believe in some cases, the boundaries have not been delimited yet. Being in these fields, however, made me realize that whether we like it or not, information technology and telecommunication have grown rapidly nowadays and play a significant role in our daily life. Therefore, adjustment has to be made, not to mention to us, women. In my opinion, it doesn't take a genius nor gender to be part of it. It is what it takes. Technology always changes and keep moving forward, I see no reason to stay in place and got left behind just because of our gender.
